My name is Kyra, I’m also known as Slim. I started at the WBP September 5, 2023. I did 10 and half years in prison and got released in June of 2023. This was the first job that I got and kept for the long-term. What I’ve learned is to work hard and it pays off. I learned how to take feedback from my supervisors and to not react to my feelings so quickly. Coming here everyday and working hard paid off and I was promoted to a lead position. I got more experience learning how to work with people in a new way. The community really made me feel welcome and comfortable enough to share about and work through my challenges. The support here is fantastic. One of my goals was to get my own place and I accomplished this by signing a lease and moving into my own apartment! When I first started at WBP I was living at a sober living home by choice and eventually decided it wasn’t the right fit for me and I worked hard to get my own place. Using my resources here at the WBP really opened doors for me as I obtained a job at the Kroger warehouse. Looking into the future I hope to be able to be a mentor and support for other women who have been released from prison. I also want to give a shout out to my mom for being there for me and believing in me no matter what. I love you mom!
